Position Overview

The Substitute Teacher supports child-led learning in a fully outdoor environment within our forest preschool program. Responsibilities may include: 

  • Supporting or leading daily activities

  •  Maintaining a safe and nurturing outdoor environment

  •  Following established routines and classroom expectations

  •  Supporting social-emotional development

  •  Adhering to all Virginia childcare licensing standards

  •  Assisting with activities inspired by our forest school curriculum

This position is ideal for candidates seeking flexible forest preschool teacher positions in an outdoor learning environment.

  • This is an on-call, as-needed position

  •  No minimum or guaranteed number of hours

  •  Substitute teachers may be contacted with short notice

  •  This position is classified as part-time, non-exempt (hourly) employment

Employment with Neptune’s Forest is at-will and may be terminated by either party at any time, with or without cause, in accordance with Virginia law.

Outdoor & Physical Requirements

Neptune’s Forest operates outdoors. Please read carefully and answer honestly.
This role requires standing, walking, hiking uneven terrain, lifting up to 50 lbs, and being outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Are you physically capable of this?
Are you able to remain calm and responsive in a dynamic outdoor environment?
